Grüner Veltliner Handcrafted - MA Arndorfer Mitges

Jumpin Juice - Pinot Noir - 2020

It’s not difficult to pair wine with spicy food as long as we keep a few factors in mind. Yes there are a number of flavours at play with most spicy cuisines, and a whole host of ingredients to think about. Choosing the wrong wine could overpower the dish and ruin both the food and the wine, but if you get it right… well, it enhances the whole experience.

The right wine will compliment AND provide contrast. This will usually be in the form of body, richness, sweetness, temperature and complimentary flavours.

We have picked out a two of wines. A couple that provide balance to a spicy dish and one which actively works as a sort of spice booster!

Pairing White Wine with Spicy Food
A crisp, cold refreshing white will offer the perfect contrast to the heat and richness of most spicy dishes.
Grüner Veltliner Handcrafted - MA Arndorfer Mitges – Libation

Grüner Veltliner’s bright acidity and appealing spicy quality pair it very well spicy Malaysian food.

Much like an off-dry riesling with it’s fruity aromatic nature we think no other grape works better with a spicy dish that a 100% Gruner Veltliner and here we have one of the greats produced by MA Andorfer. It is itself Spicy, Herbal & utterly Spellbinding. Whilst bringing that freshness that really helps cut through heat to provide a beautifully crisp finish.

Grüner Veltliner’s bright acidity and appealing spicy quality pair it very well with Malay food.

Pairing Red Wine with Spicy Food
We understand that white wine isn’t for everyone, you may want to tuck into a red instead. For us there are two simple runs to follow when pairing any red wine:

Stay away from high alcohol, high tannin wines like Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, unless you like your spicy dishes to be intense. Opt for fruity, low alcohol, low to medium tannin wines.

You can also try a lovely fruit forward Pinot Noir. It’s typically low in alcohol and tannin and can handle medium spiced dishes.
Jumpin Juice - Pinot Noir - 2020 – Libation

Our Pinot Noir suggestion (and subtle spice booster) is the seriously smashable Aussie Pinot Noir from one of our favourite Natural Wine projects, Jumping Juice. Big, bright and aromatic. Expect notes of juicy nectarine and vibrant dark berries with a light floral finish. Recommend serving slightly chilled.

Natural wine expertly curated for you.
